Festival season has officially begun with Smile Nation Slovenia 2021

Smile Nation Slovenia kicks off the festival season, being the first midsize festival to take place in this part of Europe after a year and a half of no shows due to the pandemic.

On 24th of June, 2021, the beautiful Slovenian capital Ljubljana was covered in sunshine, holi colors, great music and amazing energy. The 7th edition of Smile Nation Slovenia was more than successful. Like per usual the attendees were able to participate in various fun activities and group workouts throughout the day and enjoy themselves in a spectacular evening programme, with a stellar lineup. International stars Nervo, Quintino and Marnik, along with local talents Kosta Radman, Minless and Tim Urbanya delivered outstanding performances and took care of an unimaginable energy and atmosphere that we weren’t able to feel in almost two years.

The organisers really outdid themselves once again. After a successful corona proof concept that they delivered last year, they managed to move the boundaries one more time and welcome 5000 people to the stadium Ilirija for an unforgettable day and night. This year there were no sectors and so called boxes, people were able to move freely and dance carefree.

Everyone on the site had to meet at least one of the following conditions – they had either test negative for COVID-19, fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or had COVID-19 in the past 6 months. Before entering the venue party lovers had to disinfect their hands, measure the temperature and present valid documentation that allowed them to enter.

At the festival itself attendees were encouraged to keep the distance, follow the obligatory hygiene recommendations and party safely.

Although the temperature rose above 35 degrees during the day, the bravest festival lovers still joined the fun and tested their skills in electronic rodeo, XXL football, american gladiator and in the XXL box ring. When the temperature finally started to normalize, people were able to join Slovenian femme fatale Patricia Pangeršič for a colorful workout just before the Italian hitmaker Marnik took over the stage.

The spectacular evening started out with Marnik, a multi talented Italian duo, that can brag about their successful collaborations ‘Bella Ciao’ with Steve Aoki, ‘Bazaar’ and ‘Alone’ with KSHMR, ‘Children of a Miracle’ with Don Diablo and their latest hit ‘Candyman’ with R3hab. They warmed up the crowd with their infectious energy, sing-along hits and progressive house beats.

Next one to take over the Smile Nation stage was the Dutch superstar DJ Quintino. The crowd went nuts when the artist started dropping one banger after another, resulting in an unmanageable amount of electrifying energy below the stage. Most known for his big room and electro house hits, Quintino’s set wasn’t missing old school tracks like his collaborations ‘Mayhem’ with Steve Aoki and ‘Freak’ with R3hab, as well as some new releases like ‘Quechua’ and fresh ID’s that will be out soon. He brought the audience to the next level with his amazing performance and left them wanting for more.

The highlight of the event was definitely the performance of Australian twin sisters Liv and Mim, who actually have Slovenian roots. For them it was an amazing opportunity to be back in the country that is so close to their hearts and to be able to play in front of a crowd as energized and as enthusiastic as the Smile Nation Family was. Currently reigning as the highest ranked female DJs on the DJ Mag’s Top 100 list, Nervo are a complete package. With their fiery spirit, unmatched energy and marvelous hits, they were a crowd favorite in no time.

The grand finale of the night was when Quintino joined the Nervo sisters back on stage for an ultimate throwback closing of the festival. Mixing Icona Pop’s ‘I Love It’ with Quintino’s collaboration with Sandro Silva ‘Epic’ and then finishing off with Gammer’s flip of ‘Zombie’ by Ran-D, was a spectacular and unforgettable ending to an amazing edition of Smile Nation Slovenia.
